About Sheridan

I have lived in Hartlebury for 29 years, I was brought up in Chester Road South, opposite the Kidderminster Golf Course and near the Viaduct, and my parents are from Cookley and Ombersley - Hartlebury has been a part of me all my life.  Both my parents worked on 25 MU well before it became the Hartlebury Trading Estate. I went to King Charles I School and Sixth Form.  I then went to Kidderminster College of FE, worked for a local firm on the Trading Estate, then moved in to my main area of interest - computing - both hardware and software. I started my own business fourteen years ago so I am not just a resident of Hartlebury, but I also run a business here.

What have I done so far for this community?

I helped Worcestershire Against Incineration and Landfill Worcestershire Against Incineration and Landfill (WAIL) during the two week Government Inquiry, devoting an enormous amount of my personal time – I feel passionately that the proposed incinerator here in Hartlebury is a mistake and remain determined to get that message across to others parishioners. It is often too easy to sit back and do nothing – I am not that type of individual.  I care, I have the time to contribute, and I have a determination to raise important issues and represent you in the right way.

Today I work with the Hereford & Worcestershire Action Group (HWAG).  We have worked tirelessly to highlight to both Worcestershire and Herefordshire County Councils the flaws in their business plans surrounding the Hartlebury incinerator.  We have also been keen to highlight their lack of financial scrutiny and have worked with the local and national Press to ensure this is highlighted.  There is much more to be done – we need to make sure that this community is safe.  We are actively seeking air quality monitoring – we want to know that we and future generations have a safe environment in which to live.  We as a Parish Council will fight for this on your behalf and, if elected as your District Councillor, I will pursue this vigorously.

I have regularly attended meetings of Worcester County Council and also at Hereford, and made representations and voiced concerns.  It is important that we challenge this and other decisions that affect our community.   I am keen also to see transparency and openness at all levels which is why I have regularly videoed their Public Meetings, which anyone is legally allowed to do.

My other work for the community

I have been involved in a number of fundraising activities, whether it be for WAIL or the Friends of Hartlebury.  I have acted as Treasurer for the Friends of Hartlebury and helped out extensively with promoting and running events.  It gives me great pleasure to be part of a community group, helping to raise funds and seeing the greater benefit it brings to others.

I am also an associate governor at the Hartlebury Primary School.

Hartlebury Parish Hall

Much has already been done to improve facilities and usage of our Parish Hall and our thanks must go to its Management Committee.  The Committee has new documents of association and I know that they have worked very hard in this regard.   However, we need to make even more use of the Hall – it should be the hub of our community.  Why don’t we look at getting Internet access?  Let’s try and persuade businesses to use the facilities.   There is so much more that could be done and again I am keen to consult you about this – so again, come along to Parish Council meetings and let us have your thoughts.

Why Independent
I helped produce the then Parish Council website (2011-2012)
There is a lot more I would like done as regards proper calendars for events, which need to be interactive.
